Witchcraft is often defined as casting spells, and using sorcery in order to manipulate, influence or control people or situations. When I first heard about witchcraft infiltrating Christian churches, it was explained as satanists posing as believers, in order to hinder the work of God. The term witchcraft in the church however, has evolved into meaning something quite different.
Ephesians 5:11, NKJ says; And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. An increasing number of people are shedding light, on what they believe is witchcraft, and manipulation taking place within the walls of church buildings. And they are naming ministers as the perpetrators.
The works of darkness are being exposed in numerous ways. Rick Godwin wrote a book entitled Exposing Witchcraft in the church. There is a video with a jingle about the phrase money cometh. I was in a church where this phrase was used during the offering. We were taught that when you gave money in church, God was going to send us so much more.
It was explained, that by saying money cometh we were calling in money from the spirit realm. We were told we were making a confession of faith. In my opinion what we really were doing was trying to manipulate blessings from God by giving money and quoting a phrase, the same way witches say spells and incantations..
Young Christian Rapper Shai Linne goes so far as to name preachers he believes are teaching false doctrine, and manipulating unsuspecting believers out of their hard earned cash. There are websites and blogs, where the authors believe that pastors who operate like dictators, trying to control the members are operating in witchcraft.
Author Jonas Clark says that those who operate in witchcraft and manipulation, try to separate their victims from friends and family, by keeping them busy and tired. My family was part of a church that had something going on often 7 days a week. And church services on Wednesday night as well as Sunday were often 3 or 4 hours long.
Once we had a meeting on the 4th of July that began at noon, and was going strong at 4:30 p.m. Who does that? The pastor had made statements in the weeks prior to the holiday about not wanting his church leaders drinking and partying. By holding the meeting so long, it probably interrupted many plans for cookouts.
This same pastor often told us that he would be afraid not to give God His 10%. He said that if we did not tithe and spent the money on a vacation, we might have an accident or get robbed. I now realize this was an attempt to manipulate members into tithing.
We were told that if we desired God’s favor, we must always come to church before praise and worship and never leave until after the benediction. The first lady and her children always came late and left early.
One Saturday there was a church leadership seminar. As we were breaking at 12:30, the guest Bishop said that anyone who left and did not return for the afternoon session, their car tires would go flat. On another occasions a guest preacher said that if we left this particular church, and the teachings of the pastor we would die. Less than 6 months later it was the pastor himself who fell dead in the church.
Pastor John Eckhart says that people who have been exposed to controlling pastors need deliverance, and that those who try to control and dominate God’s sheep need to repent. Ezekiel chapter 34:1-10 the Lord says through the prophet, Woe to the shepherds, I am against the shepherds who look out for themselves and not the sheep, and who rule with force and cruelty.
